History

Story so far...
22 Jun 2007

It was back in 1954 that Alan Woodiwiss decided to set up a team with some Sutton High School mates. 53 years later and Mr (or Sir to you) Woodiwiss is still involved with the club, always on the sideline supporting each of his teams and chasing up match subs.
The club has had a great deal of success in its time. For a long spell, the Sunday XI had a habit of winning every league they contested, but to date have found life a little harder in the Modern & District Premier Division. Keep plugging away AJ. Then there was the Youth XI, who last season won everything under the sun - and unsurprisingly most of the players got snapped up by semi-pro clubs.
On Saturdays, it seems like only yesterday that we had three successful teams running, with the 1sts enjoying a spell in the top division of the Surrey South Eastern Combination league. Under the late, great Ian Boyes, the team also reached the County Cup final for the first time in its history - narrowly losing out on penalties.
Then players got old, fat or both and the 1st team folded. At this time, a new 2nd team was only just finding its feet - it seemed natural that a couple of hanger-ons from the old 1sts should merge and start again.
So, with Intermediate status gone, Sutton High Saturday XI started life again in Junior Division 4. Four seasons, three promotions and a cup win later, we are nestled nicely in Junior Division 1 with an eye on reclaiming Intermediate status next season. The club is rising again...
